Turning Scars into Stars |
Compuscan is a proud sponsor of the Child Witness Centre in Somerset West. We make sure that the centre has enough resources to prepare sexually abused children so that they will be able to face the terrifying court environment.
MORE ABOUT THE CENTRE
Appearing in court can be a very frightening experience for a child, especially if he or she has been sexually abused. The abuse itself, and then having to give evidence in court, not once, but over and over again, easily become one very traumatic experience for the child.
Children often experience a great deal of stress in court, and the methods by which evidence is elicited, create confusion and inaccuracies. The trauma is increased as it is a strange and formal environment, especially if the child and family do not have an understanding of the function of the court and the trial process. Court rooms are also unfriendly and intimidating places for already traumatized children.

Compuscan Academy Gives Back to the Community |
In the aftermath of last year’s recession many consumers are struggling to manage their personal finances. To assist consumers and to give back to the community, Compuscan Academy hosted a range of Free Workshops on Money Management in the Western Cape. We chose two communities that we wanted to benefit from the workshops so that they could feel empowered to manage their finances better. Donating Soccer Balls to Needy Kids in the Spirit of the World Cup |
In the spirit of the Soccer World Cup 2010, Compuscan, one of the largest credit bureaus in South Africa, is donating soccer balls to needy schools and communities as part of their nation wide goodwill campaign.
In these economically depressed areas, where luxuries like toys or sports equipment are scarce commodities many children, who are extremely excited about the World Cup have seldom or never touched a real soccer ball. Playing soccer builds them into a team, keep them out of trouble, makes them forget how hard their life can be and, most of all, give them hope for a better tomorrow.
Compuscan's Sales Team started to distribute a 1000 soccer balls to needy children country-wide since the beginning of 2010, putting smiles on many little faces.

Village Kids |
We at Compuscan have always been caring supporters of our community.
In 2004, we took initiative to start funding ‘The Village Kids Nursery School’, situated in Garden Village, an economically depressed area in Somerset West, South Africa.
This area has been ravaged by unemployment and poverty and the new nursery school was seen as a ray of sunshine for many children who were faced with the social ills surrounding them.
Our Managing Director and his wife were made aware of the need for a nursery school in the Garden Village area by one of their former colleagues, who informed them that funds were made available in earlier years for a community project in the area, but it only amounted to a portion of the community hall being partitioned off and converted into school premises. These premises stood empty for 6 years and was not utilised for it’s intended purpose due to lack of funds and initiatives from the community leaders in the area.
